About this work

This engraving shows a domed, colonnaded building engulfed in flames above a walled city, while armored soldiers haul a large cart pulled by oxen across the foreground. Camels and mounted figures crowd the left side, and a Latin inscription runs along the bottom margin. The work is Maarten van Heemskerck's 1569 print The Chaldeans Carrying Away the Pillars of The Temple of Jerusalem.
