About this work

A dark, dramatic painting shows the Virgin Mary seated before a stone doorway holding the Christ child, while a kneeling elderly figure bows low and richly dressed kings with turbans approach with offerings. Armored soldiers and a horse stand at the right beneath a shadowy sky. This is The Adoration of the Magi by Gaspare Diziani, dated 1750.
