Gaspare Diziani started out in his home town of Belluno with Antonio Lazzarini, then moved to Venice to study under Gregorio Lazzarini and later Sebastiano Ricci. He also painted scenery for the theatre and opera in Venice, Munich and Dresden. In 1726 Cardinal Ottoboni invited him to Rome to decorate the church of San Lorenzo in Damaso, a work now known only through an engraving. His early commissions were mostly playful decorations for bedrooms and small salons, while his fellow pupil Tiepolo won the vast ceilings. He died in Venice in 1767.
