About this work
An engraved religious scene shows Christ ascending into a sky of billowing clouds with arms outstretched, while a group of robed figures kneel and gaze upward on a rocky hill. A small distant landscape with buildings and hills appears at the left and right edges. A Latin inscription from Luke 24:51 runs along the lower margin, and the plate is credited to Maerten de Vos as designer, with the engraving attributed to Antonius Wierix and the publication noted as by Visscher.
