About this work

A satirical etching showing a bedroom with a canopied bed, where a woman in a nightgown clutches a sheet while a startled, nearly nude man leaps up from a trunk. A second woman stands in the open doorway holding a warming pan, and a washbasin, jug and lit candle sit on a side table. The print is attributed to Thomas Rowlandson and is held in the Wikimedia Commons collection.
