A hand-coloured caricature shows a stout, downcast man in a blue coat with a yellow-trimmed red waistcoat, a black tricorn hat, and white stockings. He holds a scroll inscribed with the words "The Traitors have refused to fight" while his face shows a tearful, mournful expression. The work is titled "A sad Storey" and is attributed to Thomas Rowlandson, with an inscription in the lower left that reads Pub. Sept 7, 1799 by R. Ackermann.
