About this work
A hand-coloured print showing a crowded London street with a large wooden pillory at the centre, where two figures are held in the frame while a dense crowd gathers around. An equestrian statue stands on a stone plinth at the right, and carriages and onlookers fill the foreground and the tall brick buildings on the left. This is Thomas Rowlandson's 1808 print, catalogued in the Houghton collection.
