About this work
A broad sandy beach is crowded with fishermen, women and customers gathered around baskets and carts, with several moored and beached sailing boats on the left. A tall church tower and low houses rise on the dunes at right beneath a dramatic sky of billowing clouds. This fish selling scene near Egmond is attributed to Jan van Goyen and dated 1653.
