About this work
This etching, titled Lourdes, the Miracle (second plate), was made by Jean-Louis Forain in 1912. A young woman in a long robe stands on a raised platform with her arms outstretched and her gaze lifted upward, surrounded by a dense crowd of figures, some kneeling or reclining on the ground. The fine, loose hatching gives the scene a dusky, emotional atmosphere.
