About this work
This etching shows a windswept tree with loose, feathery foliage beside a long garden wall with an arched opening, set above a diagonal path. The sparse, sketched lines leave much of the sky and ground open. The print is titled In the Park at Versailles (first plate), by Jean-Louis Forain, and dates to 1909.
