About this work
This etching, titled The Corridors of the Palace of Justice, shows a dense crowd of loosely drawn figures moving through a tall, colonnaded interior, with a dark-coated man in the foreground casting a heavy shadow across the floor. The artist Jean-Louis Forain made the work in 1908, and the loose hatching and scratchy contours give the scene a rapid, observational quality.
