About this work
This etching shows an allegorical scene in which a seated bearded man in classical drapery is accompanied by a crowned woman, while a winged figure descends from clouds holding a shield and a lightning bolt. Reclining figures in the foreground and a lettered map or scroll in the background complete the composition.
