About this work

Félix-Hilaire Buhot's 1877 print Le Château des hiboux (Castle of the Owls) shows a dark, ruined castle on a hillside within a circular vignette, with many small owls dotting the slope. To the right, a framed bookplate labeled Ex Libris displays cherubs, a sailing ship, a music book, a violin and a book. The inscription at bottom notes it as a third state and an aquatint trial.
