About this work
A colored crayon drawing shows a luminous winged or hooded figure descending toward a woman who reaches up while holding a young child on a bed. A small lit candle glows in the lower left corner, and a sleeping figure lies at the foot of the bed. This 1894 print by Théophile Alexandre Steinlen illustrates the Baudelaire poem named in the title.
