About this work
This circular landscape painting, titled Der Einsiedler and dated 1842, shows a rocky promontory where a small hut and two figures stand above a dark lake. Snowy mountains rise under a gradient sky moving from blue to golden yellow at the horizon, and a gnarled tree clings to the cliff at left. The work is attributed to Carl Geyling.
