About this work

A hand-colored aquatint-style print shows an alpine valley with snow-covered peaks rising above steep rocky cliffs and several waterfalls. In the foreground, wooden chalets, grazing goats, and figures in traditional dress are gathered on a green meadow. The print is inscribed with the French title Vue prise au passage de Wengernalp vers le fond de la vallée de Lauterbrunnen, after David Alois Schmid, published in Zurich.
