About this work

Two chainmail-clad knights occupy a riverbank in the foreground, one lying prone with a sword beside him while the other crawls toward him on hands and knees with a fearful expression. A castle with towers rises across the water, and a group of figures watches from beneath willow trees at left. This print, titled "Balan, full of fear, crawled on his hands and knees to his brother," was made by William Henry Margetson in 1914.
