About this work

A pencil drawing on tan paper shows a draped female figure seated with arms folded, with the fabric folds carefully shaded across the sleeves, skirt and hood. A faint grid overlays the sheet, suggesting it was prepared for transfer to a larger composition. The work is a drapery study by Kenyon Cox, dated 1896, held in the Library of Congress collection.
