About this work

This print, titled The netmenders and dated 1888, shows two women seated side by side on a wooden stool, working on a large fishing net that trails across the sandy ground. The soft tonal shading and pale, open sky suggest a quiet coastal setting, and the figures are absorbed in their task with heads bowed.
