Winslow Homer started out at 19, drawing sheet music covers for a Boston commercial lithographer. He went on to illustrate magazines like Harper's Weekly, which sent him to sketch the front lines of the Civil War. In 1875 he quit commercial illustration to live on his paintings and watercolors alone. He moved to Prouts Neck in Maine in 1883 and lived about seventy-five feet from the ocean. He painted big sea scenes there and died in his Prouts Neck studio in 1910. Browse 976 works by Winslow Homer from 59 museums, free to download in HD. Source: Wikipedia
