About this work

A lithographic drawing shows a uniformed man in a long coat and peaked cap pointing toward a row of cannons while resting a hand on the shoulder of a small child. Distant ruined structures and a line of artillery fill the left background. The work is by Jean-Louis Forain and dated 1919, and its handwritten French caption reads that a child can understand the basis of the peace treaty.
