About this work

A black and white print by Jean-Louis Forain dated 1918 shows a helmeted soldier pressing down on a crouching, snarling creature with bared teeth against a sparse horizon. A handwritten caption beneath reads that it will bite no more because its teeth are broken, and the date 12 novembre 1918 is inscribed at lower right.
