About this work

A satirical lithograph shows a rough interior where Southern volunteers are recruited, with a seated clerk writing beside a whiskey barrel and a sprawled, dishevelled man on the floor. Posters on the walls announce a claimed Confederate victory at Booneville and a notice about confiscating property of suspected Unionists, while a noose and scattered household goods lie on the boards.
