About this work

A hand-coloured caricature showing a stout sailor in striped trousers and a blue jacket beside a woman in a bonnet and pink dress, while a white-wigged clergyman holds an open book labelled Matrimony and a startled young man in black stands at right. Speech balloons carry the sailor's boast that the ship will ride safe at anchor and that King George the Third will take her into keeping.
