About this work
A hand-coloured etching by Thomas Rowlandson shows Admiral Nelson celebrating with a crowded group of sailors on a ship's deck, some raising glasses and cheering while a violinist plays. Verses printed beneath the scene refer to the Battle of the Nile, and the caption names the publisher and address in the Strand. Rowlandson's caricature style is evident in the exaggerated, lively faces and figures.
