About this work
This engraving shows a young woman in an oval vignette, her head draped with a sheer scarf that falls over one bare shoulder, her gaze turned to the side. The lower centre carries an engraved inscription crediting C. E. Wagstaff as engraver after a painting by J. B. Greuze in the possession of Joseph Mayer, Liverpool, dated May 15, 1839. The sheet is labelled as a private plate.
