About this work

This engraved print shows a bearded priest in a crescent-topped headdress offering bread and a vessel of wine to a kneeling armed man, while soldiers with spears and helmets stand behind them. A tree and distant hills frame the scene, and a Latin inscription below identifies the subject as Abram returning with the spoils and receiving Melchisedech's blessing. The work is attributed to Maerten de Vos and dated 1584.
