About this work
A hand-colored lithograph shows a standing man in an early eighteenth-century court costume, with a powdered wig, lace collar, black embroidered doublet, blue cloak with gold ornament, and red bows on his shoes. A gold crown and orb rest on a draped table beside him, and bilingual Hungarian and German captions name the sitter as Joseph I, King of Hungary. The print was made by Josef Kriehuber and dated 1828.
