About this work
A sculptor's studio is crowded with plaster casts, busts, and a large white relief showing a group of figures, which a man in a dark coat works on with a tool while standing on a wooden platform. In the foreground a nude woman sits with a blue drape over her legs, looking toward the relief, and a small table holds bottles and glasses. My Father's Studio by Édouard Joseph Dantan, a work dated 1881 in the signature visible at lower left.
