About this work

A group of fishermen works on wet tidal flats beneath a heavy, overcast sky, hauling and mending dark nets strung between wooden stakes. Reflections of figures and posts shine on the flooded sand, and flocks of seagulls wheel above the coast. Édouard Joseph Dantan painted this work, titled Fasting the Nets, in 1885.
