About this work
A black-and-white engraved print shows armed insurgents fighting from a barricade of overturned carts and rubble in a city street, with a tricolour flag raised at left. Smoke from gunfire drifts across the façade of a large stone building with arched windows, and the signboard of a café is visible at right. The work is titled Prise du Château d'eau, en 1848, attributed to Theodor Josef Hubert Hoffbauer, dated 1848.
