A watercolor scene on a sandy shore shows several figures beside a long wooden canoe, with a woman carrying a basket of fruit on her head beneath tall palms. A village of conical huts and more palms lines the bay, where sailing ships and another canoe ride the water. Thomas Rowlandson made this work, dated 1810, and it is titled The Ivory Coast, West Africa.
