About this work

This watercolor and pen drawing shows a churchyard with gravestones inscribed "Sacred to the Memory" and "Here Lies the Body," a shovel, and two skulls on the grass. A man in a tall plumed hat stands among the stones while another figure leans on a spade, and a child and an older man appear at the left beside a cottage.
