About this work
A watercolor and pen drawing shows a crowded river with a large sailing boat filled with spectators on the left and numerous small rowing boats racing in the foreground and middle distance. Rowers strain at their oars while onlookers in the boats wave and cheer, with a bridge and more sailing craft visible on the distant horizon. Thomas Rowlandson made this print in 1805, and it is titled The Annual Sculling Race for Doggett's Coat and Badge.
