About this work

A pen and brown wash drawing shows a skeletal Death figure entering a bedchamber, holding an hourglass and raising a dart toward a woman seated on the edge of a canopy bed. A man in a nightcap lies in the bed behind her, and a table with a decanter, glasses and fruit stands at left. Thomas Rowlandson made this work in 1814, and it is titled Death and the Debauchee.
