About this work

A dense grove of slender, pale trunks rises through a carpet of orange and brown fallen leaves, with bright flecks of light visible in the canopy above. The surface is built from small, dabbed strokes of colour that give the forest a shimmering, mosaic-like texture. This is Beech Grove I by Gustav Klimt, dated 1902.
