About this work
A caricatured domestic scene shows a family of musicians in a cluttered interior with a lattice window, a harpsichord with open sheet music, a double bass, a violin on the floor, and a tall figure in striped trousers gesturing dramatically. The print, attributed to Thomas Rowlandson and dated 1785, is hand-coloured and satirises the exaggerated character types of the period.
