About this work
This etching depicts a mounted figure in armour and a plumed hat, seated on a rearing horse with an ornate bridle and saddle cloth against an open landscape with distant hills. The inscription beneath identifies the subject as Felipe IV, King of Spain, after a painting by Diego Velázquez, drawn and engraved by Francisco Goya in 1778.
