An illness in the early 1790s left Goya deaf, and his work grew darker after it. He was born in Fuendetodos in Aragon and became a painter to the Spanish court, where he painted the royal family and made the Caprichos etchings. Late in life he painted 14 Black Paintings straight onto the plaster walls of his house outside Madrid, and he never meant them to be shown. He left Spain for Bordeaux in 1824. He died there four years later, aged 82. Browse 1,146 works by Francisco Goya from 38 museums, free to download in HD. Source: Wikipedia
