About this work
This etching from Goya's Los caprichos series shows a man in dark clothing embracing a woman who kneels before a washtub, while he raises a broken jug. White linens hang on a line across the background, and a small paper boat floats in a puddle on the floor. The handwritten inscription below the image reads 'Así pagan aquien mal aze' and the print is labeled number 28.
