About this work

A chalk-style study shows an elderly woman in three-quarter view, her head tilted downward and to the left, wrapped in a draped headscarf. Soft black and red chalk shading models the wrinkled face and folds of cloth against a tan ground. The print is attributed to François Boucher and dated 1767, with the engraving credited to Demarteau.
