About this work

This etching shows figures on a barren ground beneath a large tree, where a man in a headscarf pulls at the clothing of a fallen body while another figure leans over a second corpse. Several bodies lie sprawled in the foreground, and a distant group of people and a mountain range sit in the background. The print is Francisco Goya's plate 16 from Los Desastres de la guerra, and it is signed in the lower left corner.
