About this work

A lithograph by Théophile Alexandre Steinlen titled Arguments frappants shows a dense crowd of men in hats and coats, many shouting with raised fists and sticks, converging on a figure sprawled on cobblestones. The crowd fills the upper part of the sheet while a tangle of bodies dominates the lower center, with the artist's signature visible in the lower left and in red at lower right. The title and handwritten inventory notes appear at the top and bottom margins.
