About this work

A dark, painterly scene shows a enormous nude male figure rising above a rolling plain, his head turned to one side and an arm raised above the horizon. Below him, small figures, animals and a covered wagon scatter across the open ground in apparent flight, under a dramatic sky of shadowy clouds.
