About this work

A woman in a red jacket trimmed with white fur and a white headscarf stands in a dim interior while a man in a striped doublet extends a folded letter toward her. A seated attendant at a writing table watches the exchange beside a brass candlestick, and a small spaniel rests on a yellow cushioned stool.
