Gerard ter Borch painted mostly genre scenes, and he's known for the way he rendered the texture of draperies. He was born in Zwolle in 1617 and got his first training from his father, who was also an artist. As a young man he studied in Haarlem under Pieter de Molijn and later travelled to London, Rome and Münster. In Münster he painted a small picture on copper of the congress that ratified the peace between the Spaniards and the Dutch. He settled in Deventer, became a member of the town council and died there in 1681. Browse 164 works by Gérard ter Borch from 20 museums, free to download in HD. Source: Wikipedia
