About this work

A pencil drawing shows a nude man in a Phrygian cap grasping a large eagle by the neck while raising a staff, set against a sketchy, swirling sky and a distant village with rising smoke. The sheet is a preparatory study on a warm tan paper, with handwritten inscriptions in the lower right. The work is attributed to Félix Bracquemond and dated 1833.
