About this work
This tapestry shows the god Neptune with his trident at the center, reaching toward a figure of Amymoné beside him on a sandy shore. Tritons, sea nymphs, and a dolphin-like sea creature are in the waves at left, while a wooded landscape with a barrel and reclining figures appears at right. Cherubs float in the sky above, and the piece is framed by a gilded decorative border.
