About this work

A charcoal and white chalk study on brown paper shows two seated figures, one in a military-style uniform and pith helmet looking toward the viewer and the other shown from behind in a similar hat. The rapid, loose hatching defines the limbs, folds of clothing, and the chair-like forms beneath them.
