A charcoal and white chalk drawing shows several women working on a rocky shore beneath a heavy, overcast sky, some carrying baskets or buckets on their heads and backs. Pale highlights along the wet rocks suggest the receding tide and the flat sea beyond. The work is signed in the lower right corner and dated 1881.
